Her Passions
Mary Ann Dozerwas a late bloomer to fly fishing but instantaneously became an avid angler on a trip to Yellowstone Park in 1995. This high energy, passionate fly fishing woman has worked hard to bring her love of fishing to women and men throughout the United States. She guides for the Fly Fisher’s Place in Sisters, Oregon. She guides on several rivers and lakes in Central Oregon.
Mary Ann considers casting an art form. She is one of less than 300 FFI Master Casting Instructors in the World. She is on the Fly Fishers International Casting Board of Governors and is a Winston Rods Pro Staff Member.
Mary Ann believes in giving back to motivate others to pursue their interest in fly fishing for the Fly Fishers International at the local, state & national level. She also volunteered with Casting for Recovery for 15 years.
When not fishing or volunteering, you will find Mary Ann perfecting her cast or toying with the craft of building bamboo rods or nets.
She and her husband, Dave Dozer, live in Sisters, Oregon.
Building Confident & Competent Anlers
Whether on the water or in a virtual classroom, her goal is to make you a competent & confident angler. When Guiding, she wants you to catch and have fun! But she also is focused on taking your skills to that next so that the next time you fish, something you learned from Mary Ann will result in a great cast and a great fish.” When instructing, her goal is not to tell you everything she knows. Instead, she focuses on sharing her knowledge on a few essential skills that are foundational to catching. Her engaging style will have you in an active role so that you retain your newly learned skills.
She is adept at combining her responsibilities as a guide and instructor of fly-fishing. She is known for her enthusiasm and teaching skills. Accolades from Mary Ann’s guests and students include: “positive,” “outgoing,” “fun,” “patient,” “builds confidence,” and “a natural teacher.”
Mary Ann continues to push the envelope on, enabling anglers to become confident & competent. Her present educational pursuit is virtual. In 2020, Mary Ann pursued her vision for interactive virtual learning. She explored virtual from all angles and tried various formats for their effectiveness. Her 2021 instructional offerings at the individual or group level reflect these learnings.
